It is with deep regret and sadness that the Maryland
Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems acknowledges
the unfortunate crash of Trooper 2 of the Maryland State
Police Aviation Command fleet. The crew was on a life-saving
mission transporting two injured patients from a crash scene in Charles County,
Maryland to a trauma center. Another Maryland Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Provider from the Waldorf Rescue Squad was on-board assisting with the medical
treatment. The fatalities include the State Police pilot and flight medic,
the volunteer EMS medical provider, and a patient. A second patient on the
helicopter survived the crash and is being treated. Our deepest sympathy goes out
to the families, friends, and loved ones of the providers and patient that
were killed in the crash.
